FINE LINES & WRINKLES
Fine lines and wrinkles are small creases that appear on our skin as we get older. They develop mainly because our bodies produce less collagen, a special protein that keeps our skin firm and smooth. Over time, factors like aging, sun exposure, and environmental damage can worsen these lines. Sun damage can break down collagen, making fine lines more noticeable.
Dynamic lines and static lines are two types of wrinkles that can appear on our skin. Dynamic lines are the creases that show up when we move our face, like when we smile or frown. These lines can become deeper over time because of repeated movements.
On the other hand, static lines are the wrinkles that are visible even when our face is relaxed. They often develop as our skin loses elasticity and collagen with age.
At Dr. Chao's cosmetic clinic, Dr. Chao offers treatments to help reduce the appearance of these common signs of aging - addressing both dynamic and static lines - to restore a smoother, youthful look to your skin.

ACNE SCARS & SKIN TEXTURE
As we age or experience skin conditions like acne, scars and changes in skin texture can develop. Skin conditions like acne can further affect the skin's surface. When a pimple forms, the skin gets damaged, and as it heals, the body creates scar tissue to repair the area. This healing process can leave behind marks, bumps, or indentations, which are commonly known as acne scars. The severity of scarring depends on how deep the acne was, the healing process, and how the skin reacts.
Additionally, other factors like sun exposure, genetics, and lifestyle can contribute to changes in skin texture and tone over time. Over time, the skin's natural texture can also change due to the loss of collagen and elastin, which help keep the skin smooth and firm. These changes are a normal part of aging but can sometimes lead to uneven skin, wrinkles, or bumps. While these changes are a natural part of life, they don’t have to be permanent.
At his cosmetic clinic, Dr. Chao offers treatments to rejuvenate your skin and to boost your confidence.
There are numerous treatments for this condition.

SKIN HYDRATION
As we age, the skin’s ability to hold onto moisture reduces, leading to dryness and a loss of elasticity. This is because the skin’s outer layer also becomes thinner over time and the production of oils that keep the skin hydrated reduces. When the skin lacks moisture, it can become flaky, tight, and develop fine lines. The loss of collagen, which gives the skin structure, also makes it less firm and more prone to sagging. In addition, the sun’s UV rays, pollution, and other environmental factors can speed up this process, making skin even drier and more prone to wrinkles.
"Crepey skin" is often a result of both reduced moisture and loss of collagen, leading to the delicate, paper-like texture. You might notice this most on areas like the under-eye area, cheeks, arms, or neck, where the skin is thinner.
o combat this, it's important to replenish moisture regularly, use products that support collagen, and protect the skin from further damage.
At his cosmetic clinic, Dr. Chao offers treatments to boost hydration, stimulate collagen production, and restore smoother, firmer skin.

OVERGROWN SCARS
Keloid scars are thick, raised scars that grow bigger than the original wound. They can appear after cuts, burns, or even piercings. While some individuals may choose to leave keloid scars alone, keloids can cause pain and be tender and itchy and may continue to grow so treatment is available. Treatment helps to reduce the size of the keloid and to flatten the scar, making them less inflamed and less painful and itchy.
Generally, the most effective treatment for these scars is injecting them with a steroid, which Dr. Chao provides at his cosmetic clinic.
If you’ve had a scar that keeps growing, feels itchy, or looks raised — it might be a keloid. Dr. Chao offers gentle, in-office treatments to reduce discomfort and flatten these scars.

Hyperpigmentation & melasma
Hyperpigmentation is when some spots on your skin look darker than the rest. This happens because these areas of the skin make extra pigment or color, called melanin. It can show up as freckles, sun spots or dark marks after a pimple or a scratch heals. Any sort of inflammation on the skin, whether from eczema, acne, a cold sore or a burn, can cause hyperpigmentation. Sun exposure will generally worsen hyperpigmentation so it is best to stay protected from the sun.
One cause of hyperpigmentation is melasma. This generally appears as darkened patches of skin on the cheeks, forehead and chin, sometimes on the chest and forearms, and can be triggered by hormones (e.g. during pregnancy, thyroid problems or taking birth control) and is worsened with sun exposure.
Hyperpigmentation is common, not dangerous, and there are safe treatments that can help reduce hyperpigmentation to even out your skin tone.
At Dr. Chao's cosmetic clinic, Dr. Chao offers various cosmetic treatments to help reduce hyperpigmentation and melasma.

Age spots & sun spots
Solar lentigines, also called sun spots or age spots, are flat brown spots that show up on the skin after spending a lot of time in the sun. They are most common on areas like the face, hands, shoulders and arms where the sun hits most. These spots are not harmful but many people choose to treat them if they want their skin to look more even.
Wearing sunscreen and stay protected from the sun can help prevent new ones from forming.
At Dr. Chao's cosmetic clinic, Dr. Chao offers various cosmetic treatments to help treat these age spots and sun spots, brightening your skin.

Precancerous sun spots from sun damage
(actinic keratoses)
Actinic keratoses are rough, scaly red patches that show up on skin that has had a lot of sun over the years. They are usually found on the face, lips, ears, hands or arms. Although these spots are not skin cancer, they are considered precancerous sun spots from sun damage as they can sometimes turn into skin cancer if left untreated. These precancer sun spots generally develop in areas of skin that have a lot of sun damage.
At Dr. Chao's cosmetic clinic, Dr. Chao offers various cosmetic treatments to help treat these precancer sun spots as well as the background of sun damage in the surrounding skin.
