FoLix™ is a special kind of laser treatment that helps people who are losing their hair. It’s the first fractional laser device that has been cleared by both the FDA and Health Canada to treat hair loss. This means it’s been tested and approved as safe and effective for both men and women.
Here’s how it works:
✔ The laser makes tiny, gentle marks on the skin of the scalp.
✔ These tiny marks help “wake up” the hair follicles (the roots of your hair).
✔ This can help your hair grow back stronger and thicker over time.
FoLix™ treatments are:
✔ Non-invasive – there are no needles or surgery.
✔ Comfortable – most people feel little to no pain.
✔ Quick – the sessions are short, and there’s no downtime, so you can go right back to your day.
It’s a great option for people who want to improve hair growth without medications, serums or surgery, especially as surgery requires lengthy downtime and significant cost.
FAQ
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why does Dr. Chao offer FoLix?
Dr. Chao offers FoLix because it is the newest, revolutionary laser technology cleared by the FDA and Health Canada for treating hair loss. Dr. Chao is also the first and only provider of FoLix in British Columbia.
FoLix is designed to treat hair loss without:
- Surgery
- Needles
- Medications
- Chemicals
- Serums
- Downtime
Treatment involves minimal discomfort and little to no downtime, making it an appealing option for patients looking for a non-surgical approach to hair loss treatment that is both practical and convenient.
Why would someone choose FoLix over other hair loss treatments?
Many patients choose FoLix because:
- There are no medication-related side effects.
- No needles or injections are required.
- No chemicals or serums are used.
- There is little to no downtime.
- Treatments are generally more comfortable than PRP or microneedling.
- It is convenient and does not require daily pills or daily or twice daily topical applications like Minoxidil (Rogaine).
FoLix may be an excellent option for patients seeking a non-surgical, physician-delivered hair loss treatment.
What does it mean that FoLix is FDA-cleared and Health Canada-cleared?
Clearance by FDA and Health Canada means that FoLix has been reviewed for safety and effectiveness for treating hair loss. These regulatory clearances help ensure the technology meets established medical standards for use in patients.
FoLix is the first and only FDA and Health Canada-cleared laser in the entire world to treat hair loss. In British Columbia, it is currently offered exclusively by Dr. Danny Chao.
Does FoLix work?
Yes. FoLix is designed to help stimulate hair growth and improve hair density in appropriate candidates experiencing hair loss. However, results vary from person to person depending on factors such as the cause of hair loss, stage of hair thinning, genetics, consistency with treatment, and the overall duration of hair loss.
What is the process for the treatment?
At your consultation, Dr. Chao will work with you to identify your treatment areas and goals. After the consultation, you can choose to undergo treatment. The treatment takes about 30 minutes but can vary depending on the treatment areas and goals.
How many FoLix treatments do I need?
Most patients require at least 6 treatments, spaced approximately 4 weeks apart. Your treatment plan may vary depending on your degree of hair loss and your response to treatment.
How much does treatment cost?
Treatment is not covered by MSP. The cost of the treatment depends on the area to be treated and whether topical serums are used as part of the service. Book a cosmetic hair loss consultation with Dr. Chao to learn more about the cost of this treatment.
Please note that FoLix laser services are not a benefit of the BC Medical Services Plan (MSP)..
Is FoLix laser treatment painful?
The treatment is very tolerable and often patients describe only mild discomfort like a mild sunburn. Numbing cream or anesthetic is not even needed.
When can I expect to see results?
Just like any treatment for hair loss, whether medications, injections or laser, it takes 6 months to determine if the treatment is helping. Dr. Chao can help you determine the optimal number of treatments to achieve your desired results.
Are results from FoLix guaranteed?
No. Results are not guaranteed and individual responses will vary. Each person responds differently to hair loss treatments, including FoLix.
Dr. Chao focuses on evidence-based treatment plans and realistic expectations to help patients achieve the best possible outcomes.
What is the downtime?
Downtime is very short and consists of mild redness in the treated areas which resolves in 1-2 days, followed by a light sandpaper texture which resolves after 5-7 days.
What are the risks or side effects with FoLix?
FoLix is generally well-tolerated with virtually no downtime. Patients may experience temporary redness, warmth, tenderness, or mild scalp sensitivity after treatment. Compared to many other hair loss treatments, FoLix does not involve needles, surgery, chemicals, or medications.
Dr. Chao will review your medical history and determine whether FoLix is appropriate and safe for you during your cosmetic hair loss consultation.
I am getting great results from FoLix. What is my next step?
Maintenance treatments are recommended to help maintain results from hair loss treatment with FoLix. Patients who respond well to FoLix are typically advised to continue with maintenance treatments approximately every 4 months, so approximately 3 times a year.
Hair loss is usually an ongoing condition so maintenance treatment is important for long term outcomes.
If FoLix worked well for me, does that mean other hair loss treatments will also work well?
Not necessarily. Every hair loss treatment works differently, and each person may respond differently to different hair loss treatments. A strong response to FoLix does not mean similar results with medications, PRP, microneedling, or other hair loss treatments.
Can FoLix be done during pregnancy?
No. FoLix treatments are not recommended during pregnancy. If you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, please discuss this with Dr. Chao during your cosmetic hair loss consultation.
