Hair loss is extremely common and it affects both men and women. By the age of 50, approximately 50% of men and 35% of women will experience what is known as "pattern hair loss". It is called "pattern hair loss" because generally the hair thinning occurs in a predictable pattern. In men, hair thinning begins in the crown and temples and in women, this occurs in the crown. Over time, hair follicles or the "roots" of the hair become smaller, giving thinner and shorter hairs which appears as reduced hair density and volume. This commonly becomes a source of significant stress for individuals, unfortunately lowering self-esteem and confidence.
