Covered by the BC Medical Services Plan (MSP) and requires a referral from your physician.
Dr. Chao is a family physician with an interest in skin disorders and hair loss. He trained with numerous well-known dermatologists and surgeons at the University of Ottawa, University of Alberta, and British Columbia to advance his knowledge and techniques in the assessment and treatment of various skin and hair loss conditions. He practices within the scope of primary care skin disease.
Dr. Chao provides patient-centred, evidence-based care for various skin conditions. He is accepting referrals from doctors for patients with various skin problems including:

Dr. Chao is excited to see you for any of these skin concerns with a referral from your doctor. Should your skin concern be deemed to be outside the scope of primary care skin disease, Dr. Chao will be happy to refer you to his dermatologist colleagues.

What is the process for the consultation?
To see Dr. Chao in consultation about a skin condition, please see your family doctor or walk-in clinic for a referral. Dr. Chao’s office will contact you to book a medical consultation appointment. Please bring a list of your medications to this appointment. Upon arriving for your appointment, you will be asked to complete an intake form covering basic health information.
How much does treatment cost?
Just like any medical appointment in British Columbia, your medical consultation as well as any necessary follow-up appointments are covered by MSP. You will need to obtain a referral from your family doctor or walk-in clinic to see Dr. Chao for consultations on skin conditions. Please note that Skin Consultations are covered by the BC Medical Services Plan (MSP) and only available through a referral from your doctor.
